THE TOUR
"Wings Over Europe" was a concert tour undertaken by the British-American rock band Wings in 1972. Wings was formed by Paul McCartney, following the breakup of The Beatles in 1970. The tour was in support of their album "Wild Life," which was released in December 1971.
The band, with the McCartney children and their road crew, loaded up in a brightly coloured double decker bus for the tour of the continent. The tour proceeded largely without incident, but on 10 August in Gothenburg, Sweden, Paul and Linda McCartney were fined US$1,200 for possession of marijuana. Paul joked that the incident would “make good publicity” for the tour, in comments reported around the world at the time.
The core members of Wings during this tour included Paul McCartney (vocals, bass, piano, guitar), Linda McCartney (keyboards, backing vocals), Denny Laine (guitar, vocals), Denny Seiwell (drums) and Henry McCullough (guitar).
The setlist for the "Wings Over Europe" tour featured a mix of songs from the "Wild Life" album as well as some cover songs and tracks from Paul McCartney's solo career and The Beatles. Songs like "Love Is Strange," "Hi, Hi, Hi," "Long Tall Sally," and "My Love" were among the staples of the tour.
The "Wings Over Europe" tour marked one of the early steps in Paul McCartney's post-Beatles career. While the tour itself was relatively short and not as grandiose as some of his later tours, it provided McCartney with valuable experience as a bandleader and performer outside of The Beatles' context.
COLLECTABILITY
Tour programs are highly collectable and sought after for several reasons. Firstly, they provide a tangible memento of a specific concert or event, allowing fans to relive the experience and cherish the memories associated with it. Tour programs often feature exclusive content like behind-the-scenes photos, interviews, and detailed information about the artists and their performances. Additionally, they serve as a snapshot of a particular era in an artist's career, making them valuable to both music enthusiasts and historians. Whether you're a dedicated fan or a passionate collector, owning these programs offers a tangible connection to the music world and serves as a treasured piece of memorabilia.
Programs can also be framed together with other items we have on our website such as vinyl records, official stage guitar picks, autographs, backstage passes, concert tickets, drumsticks and photos and you can create a truly one-of-a-kind unique piece of memorabilia.
