THE TOUR
"Wings Over America" was a concert tour by the British-American rock band Wings, led by Paul McCartney and his wife Linda McCartney. The tour took place in 1976, in support of their album "Wings at the Speed of Sound," which was released in March of that year. This was the second concert tour undertaken by Wings and remains one of their most notable tours.

The tour spanned from May 3, 1976, to June 23, 1976, covering a total of 31 shows across North America. The tour included performances in various cities, including Fort Worth, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, New York City, and more.

The setlist for the tour included a mix of songs from Wings' recent album "Wings at the Speed of Sound," as well as some of Paul McCartney's Beatles-era and solo hits. Songs like "Let 'Em In," "Silly Love Songs," and "Maybe I'm Amazed" were among the highlights.

The lineup for Wings during the "Wings Over America" tour consisted of:

  • Paul McCartney: Lead vocals, bass guitar, piano, guitar
  • Linda McCartney: Keyboards, backing vocals
  • Denny Laine: Keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars, backing vocals
  • Jimmy McCulloch: Electric and acoustic guitars, backing vocals
  • Joe English: Drums, backing vocals

The tour was significant not only for its musical performances but also for its scale. It was one of the earliest large-scale concert tours, featuring elaborate stage setups, lighting effects, and impressive audio-visual presentations. The tour aimed to recreate the energy of a rock 'n' roll stadium show, and it played a role in setting the stage for the grand productions that later became a norm in the concert industry.

The "Wings Over America" tour was also documented in a live album of the same name, which was released in December 1976. The album included recordings from various shows throughout the tour, showcasing the band's dynamic performances and capturing the atmosphere of their live concerts.

The "Wings Over America" tour marked an important chapter in the history of both Paul McCartney's post-Beatles career and the evolution of concert production. The tour's success solidified Wings as a prominent rock act and highlighted their ability to connect with audiences in large venues.
