THE TOUR
The "Calling All Stations" tour in 1998 was a concert tour by the British rock band Genesis, in support of their album "Calling All Stations," which was released that same year. It was the band's first tour without lead vocalist and drummer Phil Collins, who had departed the group in 1996.
After Phil Collins' departure, Genesis recruited former Stiltskin vocalist Ray Wilson to take over lead vocals for the band. Along with founding members Mike Rutherford (guitar, bass) and Tony Banks (keyboards), the band also included musicians Nir Zidkyahu (drums) and Anthony Drennan (guitar) as part of the live lineup.
The tour stretched from 29 January to 31 May 1998, featuring shows in large arenas throughout Europe.
The setlist primarily featured songs from the "Calling All Stations" album, which was the first album to feature Ray Wilson on vocals. Some classic Genesis hits from the Collins era were also included in the setlist, such as "Turn It On Again," "Land of Confusion," and "I Can't Dance."
Unfortunately, the "Calling All Stations" album and tour received mixed reviews and were met with moderate commercial success compared to the band's earlier works. As a result, Genesis went on a long hiatus after the tour, and it wasn't until 2007 that the classic lineup with Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks reunited for a successful tour.
The "Calling All Stations" tour in 1998 was a significant moment in Genesis' history as it marked the first time they toured without Phil Collins and introduced Ray Wilson as the lead vocalist. Despite the mixed reception, the tour allowed fans to hear new material and classic hits in a live setting.
