THE TOUR
The Girlschool "Screaming Blue Murder" tour in 1982 was in support of their third studio album of the same name. Girlschool, a pioneering all-female British heavy metal band, had already made a name for themselves in the music industry with their earlier albums. "Screaming Blue Murder," released in 1982, showcased the band's raw energy and musicianship, further solidifying their position in the metal genre.
The tour in 1982, promoting this album, was significant for several reasons. Firstly, it highlighted the growing popularity and acceptance of female musicians in the traditionally male-dominated heavy metal scene. Girlschool was known for their high-energy performances and ability to hold their own alongside other major metal acts of the time.
During this tour, the band's lineup included Kelly Johnson on guitar and vocals, Gil Weston on bass and vocals, Kim McAuliffe on guitar and vocals, and Denise Dufort on drums. Their performances were characterized by a blend of aggressive musicianship and an engaging stage presence.
The "Screaming Blue Murder" album and tour included notable tracks like the title track "Screaming Blue Murder" and "Don't Call it Love," showcasing the band's ability to deliver both fast-paced, hard-hitting numbers and more melodic tunes.
This tour not only promoted their new album but also helped in cementing Girlschool's reputation in the heavy metal community. Their contribution to the genre during this era was significant in paving the way for more female artists and bands in heavy metal and rock music.
