André René Roussimoff, better known as André the Giant, was a French professional wrestler and actor who became an international icon in the world of wrestling during the 1970s and 1980s. Born on May 19, 1946, André suffered from gigantism, a condition that caused him to grow to an extraordinary height of around 7 feet 4 inches (224 cm) and weigh over 500 pounds (230 kg).

André began his wrestling career in France and quickly gained attention for his immense size and remarkable athleticism despite his limitations due to his condition. He eventually moved to North America, where he wrestled for various promotions, including the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE), where he became a household name.

Throughout his career, André was known for his larger-than-life persona and his incredible strength, often portrayed as an unstoppable force in the ring. He became famous for his battles with other wrestling legends such as Hulk Hogan, with whom he had an iconic match at WrestleMania III in 1987.

Beyond wrestling, André the Giant also ventured into acting, appearing in several films and television shows. His most notable role was as Fezzik in the classic film "The Princess Bride" (1987), where his gentle giant persona endeared him to audiences worldwide.

Tragically, André the Giant passed away on January 27, 1993, at the age of 46 due to heart failure, attributed to his acromegaly. Despite his untimely death, his legacy continues to live on in the world of wrestling and entertainment, with his impact still felt decades after his passing. He was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1993.
