THE TOUR
In 2000, to commemorate Duke Ellington’s centenary, Wynton Marsalis led the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) on a global tour titled Ellington at 100. This tour included performances across Australia, New Zealand, China, Taiwan, Japan, and Hawaii, celebrating Ellington's enduring influence on jazz. 
 
The Australian leg featured collaborations with local orchestras, such as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, blending Ellington's compositions with classical arrangements. The program highlighted Ellington's masterpieces, including "Take the A Train," "Mood Indigo," and "In a Sentimental Mood," showcasing the orchestra's versatility and Marsalis's leadership.

The tour was well-received, with audiences appreciating the fusion of jazz and classical elements, and it reinforced Marsalis's role as a cultural ambassador, promoting jazz as a vital and evolving art form.
