DESCRIPTION
Classic Titles is a compilation celebrating the extraordinary musical legacy of legendary Congolese singer and bandleader Tabu Ley Rochereau, released as part of the Syllart Productions Classic Titles series in 2006. Featuring 12 recordings originally made between 1965 and 1975, this collection showcases Rochereau's influential blend of Congolese rumba, soukous and traditional African rhythms. Renowned for his smooth, expressive vocals, infectious melodies and sophisticated guitar-driven arrangements, Rochereau was one of the defining figures in modern African popular music. Highlights include "Kaful Mayay", "Karibou Ya Bintou", "Pitié", "Marie Clara" and "Hortense". An excellent introduction to the golden age of Congolese music and an essential collection for enthusiasts of African rumba and world music.
