Sonic Youth's 1995 album "Washing Machine" is often cited as a critical and fan favorite of the band's extensive discography. The album was released on DGC Records, a major label that had signed the band after their successful independent releases on smaller labels.

"Washing Machine" marked a return to Sonic Youth's experimental and noisy roots after their relatively more accessible previous album "Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star."
