The Punisher, whose real name is Frank Castle (originally Frank Castiglione), is a fictional antihero in the Marvel Comics universe. He is known for his brutal and uncompromising approach to fighting crime. Frank Castle becomes the Punisher after his wife and children are murdered by the mob for accidentally witnessing a killing in New York City's Central Park. Driven by vengeance, he declares a one-man war on crime, utilizing his military training and extensive arsenal of weapons to punish criminals.
The Punisher is characterized by his use of lethal force, guerrilla warfare tactics, and a distinctive skull emblem on his chest. Unlike many other superheroes, he operates outside the law and has no qualms about killing his enemies, which often brings him into conflict with other Marvel heroes.
In terms of live-action portrayals, Dolph Lundgren played Frank Castle/The Punisher in the 1989 film "The Punisher." Thomas Jane portrayed the character in the 2004 film "The Punisher." Ray Stevenson took on the role in the 2008 film "Punisher: War Zone." Jon Bernthal played Frank Castle/The Punisher in the Marvel Television series "Daredevil" (2016) and in his own Netflix series, "The Punisher" (2017-2019).
