DESCRIPTION
The Jam were an English punk rock/mod revival band formed in Woking, Surrey, in 1972. The band consisted of Paul Weller (vocals, guitar), Bruce Foxton (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Rick Buckler (drums). The band's sound was a mix of punk, pop, and soul, and they were known for their socially conscious lyrics and Weller's sharp songwriting.

The Jam's fourth album, Setting Sons, was released in 1979 and is considered by many to be one of their best works. The album contains several of the band's most popular songs, including "The Eton Rifles," "Thick as Thieves," and "Wasteland."
Setting Sons marked a departure from the band's earlier sound, with a greater emphasis on melody and pop hooks. Weller's lyrics, however, continued to tackle social and political issues, with songs like "Little Boy Soldiers" addressing the effects of war on young soldiers.

Despite its critical and commercial success, Setting Sons marked the beginning of the end for The Jam. The band's next album, Sound Affects, would see them move even further away from their punk roots, and they would eventually disband in 1982.
Despite their relatively short career, The Jam left an indelible mark on British music. Their blend of punk, pop, and soul, along with Weller's socially conscious lyrics, influenced countless musicians in the years that followed.
