DESCRIPTION
For years, Childish Gambino's Atavista hid in plain sight. When he released an unfinished version of the record on March 15, 2020, it spent just 12 hours on his website before being removed. Reappearing on streaming services a week later as 3.15.20, the project raised almost as many questions as it delivered sparkling neo-soul anthems.

Atavista is an ode to impermanence, never more directly than on the shimmering "Time" featuring Ariana Grande. Yet in Gambino's capable hands, the album also slows down to savour the moment, creating the sonic equivalent of a luxury drive down an open California highway. Through each carefully crafted song, tight sequence and thoughtfully chosen collaborator, Gambino demonstrates why some things are worth waiting for.
