      THE TOUR

The Black Sabbath "Born Again World Tour" in 1983 was a concert tour by the legendary British heavy metal band Black Sabbath. It was undertaken in support of their album "Born Again," which was released in August 1983. This tour is particularly notable for several reasons.

The "Born Again" album marked a significant change in the Black Sabbath lineup. Following the departure of vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Vinny Appice, the band recruited former Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan and drummer Bev Bevan of Electric Light Orchestra to join Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass), and Geoff Nicholls (keyboards). This lineup change brought a different sound and energy to the band's music.

The tour kicked off on August 9, 1983, in Bournemouth, England, and continued through Europe, North America, and Japan. The band performed a mix of classic Black Sabbath songs along with tracks from the "Born Again" album. The tour's setlist typically included iconic songs like "Iron Man," "Paranoid," "War Pigs," and "Heaven and Hell," as well as new tracks such as "Trashed," "Zero the Hero," and "Disturbing the Priest."

The concerts during the "Born Again World Tour" were known for their raw energy and powerful performances. Ian Gillan's distinctive vocals brought a different dynamic to the band's music, combining his own style with the signature Black Sabbath sound. The band members' chemistry and stage presence were highly praised by fans and critics alike.

However, the tour faced some challenges and controversies. Technical issues plagued many of the shows, with Gillan experiencing problems hearing himself on stage, resulting in vocal strain. The infamous "Stonehenge incident" occurred during the tour, where a set piece representing Stonehenge was built incorrectly and appeared significantly smaller than intended during a concert in the United States. This incident later inspired the satirical portrayal of a similar mishap in the film "This Is Spinal Tap."

Despite the challenges, the "Born Again World Tour" was generally successful, attracting large crowds and solidifying Black Sabbath's status as one of the most influential and enduring heavy metal bands. The tour concluded on December 10, 1983, in Tokyo, Japan.
