DESCRIPTION
The rise of The Lemonheads has been as dramatic as their appeal is difficult to describe. The one constant factor, vocalist/songwriter, Evan Dando, has proved almost impossible to pin down, having made headlines for taking the stage at the 1993 Reading Festival in a dress, openly confessing to a potentially lethal drug habit, and retreating to Australia to write songs after the band appeared to have self-destructed just as fame and fortune seemed within their grasp. This book fills in the gaps that even long-time fans may have had difficulty in bridging, detailing the three albums' worth of independently released music that preceded their signing to Atlantic and chart breakthrough with a cover of Paul Simon's "Mrs Robinson". It also ties in characters as disparate as Ben Deily, Dando's fellow founder-member, Gram Parsons, his fated role model, and Juliana Hatfield, the fellow Boston rock star with whom he has enjoyed a typically enigmatic relationship.
