"Metallica and San Francisco Symphony: S&M²" is a live album. It was released on August 28, 2020. The album features recordings from the two concerts the band performed with the San Francisco Symphony at the Chase Center in San Francisco on September 6 and 8, 2019.
The collaboration between Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony was a follow-up to their original "S&M" (Symphony & Metallica) concerts in 1999, which also resulted in a live album. The 2019 performances celebrated the 20th anniversary of the original collaboration and the opening of the Chase Center.
"S&M²" includes renditions of Metallica classics such as "Master of Puppets," "Enter Sandman," and "Nothing Else Matters," among others, accompanied by the orchestral arrangements conducted by Edwin Outwater. The album captures the powerful synergy between Metallica's heavy metal sound and the classical elements of the symphony, creating a unique and memorable musical experience.
