THE TOUR
The Manhattan Transfer is a renowned vocal jazz group known for their intricate harmonies and versatility. They are the most successful vocal jazz group in music history and have set milestones in jazz and pop.

For this tour of Australia, the band members were Tim Hauser, Laurel Massé, Janis Siegel and Alan Paul.

  • Tim Hauser began the group in 1972. He was the group's bass singer and served as the de facto leader. Hauser was known for his smooth baritone voice and played a significant role in shaping the group's sound.
  • Laurel Massé was a soprano vocalist in the group during its early years in the 1970s. She was one of the original members of The Manhattan Transfer but left the group in 1978 due to a car accident. Cheryl Bentyne replaced her.
  • Janis Siegel was another original member of the group. She was a versatile vocalist with a wide vocal range and sang both lead and background vocals. Her vocal contributions were an essential part of The Manhattan Transfer's signature harmonies.
  • Alan Paul was the fourth member of the group in 1977. He was a tenor singer and contributed to the group's tight harmonies and vocal arrangements. His rich voice added depth to the ensemble's sound.

The Manhattan Transfer's music is characterized by their tight vocal arrangements, skilled musicianship, and an ability to adapt to various musical styles while maintaining their signature sound. Their enduring popularity and critical acclaim have solidified their place in the history of vocal jazz and contemporary music.
