Taylor Swift Surprises Fans with a New Album Announcement Post-Grammy Win

Posted by Rockaway Records on 13th Feb 2024

This past Sunday turned out to be a golden day for Swifties worldwide, as Taylor Swift, fresh off her Grammy win, revealed a delightful surprise. During her Tokyo concert, Swift shared that her decision to announce her new album, "The Tortured Poets Department," at the 2024 Grammys was impromptu and sparked by her victory.

In a candid moment during the Tokyo concert, part of her first 2024 Eras Tour dates, Swift opened up about her thought process. "Going in, I had this plan in my head, and I told my friends — I told Jack [Antonoff, 'Midnights' producer], but I hadn’t really told very many other people," she shared, as captured in a fan video. She had decided, "If I’m lucky enough to get up there and win one thing tonight, I’m just going to do it. I’m just going to announce my new album." Luck was indeed on her side, as she won, but she humorously noted, "My backup plan was that I was gonna do it tonight in Tokyo!" much to the chagrin of the attendees of the first night.

However, Swift didn't leave her Tokyo audience hanging. She divulged more details about her upcoming album than what she had shared at the Grammys. "I’ve been working on 'Tortured Poets' since right after I turned in 'Midnights,'" Swift told the ecstatic crowd. The album, a product of two years of hard work and perfectionism, is something Swift is eagerly looking forward to sharing with her fans. "I am so, so excited that soon you’ll get to hear it and soon we’ll get to experience it together," she expressed with heartfelt enthusiasm.

The 2024 Grammys were not only a night of triumph for Swift but also a turning point, marking the announcement of her new venture. Swift's surprising revelation about "The Tortured Poets Department," set for release on April 19, has stirred excitement among fans, especially considering her recent focus on re-releasing her first six albums and her ongoing Eras Tour. Addressing the curiosity about her prolific output, Swift commented, "Everyone is like, 'Why do you make so many albums?' And I'm just like, 'Man, because I love it. I love it so much.'" Her playful response, "I’m having fun. Leave me alone," echoes the joy she finds in her musical journey.
