THE TOUR
In 1977, Peter Gabriel toured in support of his debut solo album, which was released earlier that year. The tour was known as the "Peter Gabriel Tour" or the "Car Tour," named after the cover art of his eponymous album, which featured a picture of Gabriel's face with half of it covered in car grille-like patterns.
During this tour, Nona Hendryx, a talented singer-songwriter, and member of the iconic group 'Labelle,' served as the supporting act for Gabriel's shows. Labelle was a highly influential R&B group known for their unique blend of funk, rock, and soul, as well as their flamboyant and glamorous stage presence.
Having Nona Hendryx as the supporting act would have added an exciting dimension to Gabriel's concerts, as she brought her own powerful vocals and captivating performances to the stage.
The tour likely featured Peter Gabriel performing songs from his debut solo album, including the hit single "Solsbury Hill," along with other tracks from his repertoire. Gabriel's live performances during this era were known for their theatricality, and he often incorporated elaborate visual elements and costume changes to complement his music.
Nona Hendryx's opening performances would have provided an excellent warm-up for the audience and a fantastic complement to Gabriel's own artistry.
