THE TOUR
"We Will Rock You" is a jukebox musical based on the songs of the British rock band Queen. The musical was written by British comedian and author Ben Elton in collaboration with Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor. It premiered in London's West End at the Dominion Theatre on May 14, 2002.
The storyline is set in a dystopian future where musical instruments and individualism are banned, and a powerful corporation called Globalsoft controls everything. However, a group of rebels, led by the character Galileo Figaro, strives to bring back the spirit of rock music and find the fabled musical instrument known as the "Bohemian Rhapsody." The story incorporates many of Queen's most popular songs to convey the rebellion against the homogenized and digitalized music of this future world.
Some of the iconic Queen songs featured in the musical include "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You," "Radio Ga Ga," "Somebody to Love," "Another One Bites the Dust," and "We Are the Champions," among others.
"We Will Rock You" was a significant success in London and ran for more than a decade. It also had productions in various cities and countries, making it one of the most successful and enduring jukebox musicals. The show's popularity was due to its high-energy performances, the enduring appeal of Queen's music, and its humor, making it a favorite among fans of both Queen and musical theatre.
